Berrien County web design has to serve two audiences at once. Year-round customers in St. Joseph, Niles and Benton Harbor want quick answers, while summer visitors in Harbor Country decide from a phone, often from out of state. We build hand-coded sites that are quick for both and simple to keep current.

Figures come from each client's published record, which states its reporting period and how results were measured. Past results belong to that client and are not a forecast.
Berrien County sits in the southwest corner of the state, on Lake Michigan and against the Indiana line, and it is part of the Michiana region that ties Niles to South Bend. Its 3,561 business establishments in 2023 included 290 restaurants, 59 lodging businesses and 538 retailers. Coastal towns such as New Buffalo and Lakeside draw vacationers from the Chicago area, and that stretch of shore has earned the nickname Harbor Country.
Visitors decide fast. Someone in a rental cottage looking for dinner, a fishing charter or a boat detail picks whatever loads first and shows current hours. A page-builder site that pulls in sliders, plugins and pop-ups loses that race, and many agencies still sell exactly that kind of site even though the approach is a generation behind. A hand-coded page sends only what the visitor needs: what you offer, when you are open, where you are and how to call.
Seasonal businesses also change constantly. Hours shift after Labor Day, menus turn over and events come and go. Before we build, we plan how those updates will happen, so your site never shows July hours in November. The trades that keep second homes running, from roofers to cleaners, need the same clarity about which towns they serve. In every case the hand-coded site and the domain are yours.
The first things we would work on, before spending more money on reach.
The details visitors check first, current hours, location, menus or rates, sit near the top of each page and are planned to change with the season.
Separate pages for St. Joseph, Niles, Bridgman and the Harbor Country towns, because a weekend visitor and a Berrien Springs family search differently.
Compressed photos and no builder overhead, so a visitor parked at the beach sees your page before they tap the next result.
If you serve customers on the Indiana side as well, the site says so clearly, with the communities you cover in both states.
Many local websites are built with drag-and-drop page builders. They are quick to set up, but they ship far more code than a page needs, and phones feel it first.
| Measure | Page-builder template | Hand coded by Modern Apex |
|---|---|---|
| Google phone speed score | 48 to 62Six Michigan business websites built with a popular drag-and-drop page builder, tested October 30, 2026. | 91 to 97One Stop Customs in Warren, hand coded by Modern Apex, in two tests on November 2, 2026. |
| Page size on a phone | 3.6 to 5.6 MBBuilder frameworks, widgets and plugins load on every page. | 0.6 MBOnly the code each page needs. |
| What you own | Your content, plus a theme, a builder and plugins that need licenses and updates. | The site files and the domain, outright. No builder subscription and no lock-in. |
| Editing | A drag-and-drop editor you can change yourself. | Changes go through us, or a simple editing setup we agree on before launch. |

Where we can help, and where to go next.
Clear terms before any work starts. Google Ads management has a six-month initial commitment, then runs month to month with 30 days written notice.
Bring what you have today. Nick will tell you what is working, what is not and what he would change first.
Plan for both seasons. In summer, lead with hours, bookings and directions. In the off season, lead with what locals buy year round, such as gift cards, events or service work. We set the pages up so that switch is quick.
No website can promise where it appears. What it can do is make your location and service area unmistakable, with clear town names, an accurate address and pages written for visitors, so customers and Google can place you correctly.
For the changes you make most, it does not need to be. On the strategy call we talk through how often you change hours, menus or specials and plan the simplest way to handle those updates before anything is built.
Yes. We are based in Michigan and work statewide on video and phone calls, so a restaurant in St. Joseph or a contractor in Buchanan gets the same planning as any client near Detroit.
No strings attached. Choose a time, bring your questions and leave with a clearer next move.
